What to Expect

On Installation Day

INSTALLATION

overview

We want to make sure that you are fully prepared for your NextGen Fiber installation. Here’s what you can expect:

What do I need to do to prepare for installation?

An adult (over the age of 18) able to make decisions regarding the property must be present at the time of installation. This decision-maker must be available and on the property until the installation is completed. Please make sure all gates and fences are unlocked, as the technician may require access to both the inside and outside of your location. Secure all pets while our technicians are on site.

Do I need my own router?

You will need a router for your NextGen Fiber Internet service. If you did not purchase a managed router when you ordered NextGen Fiber, you can provide your own or lease a router from us for $7.99/mo. When you lease a router from us, we are fully responsible for the management and service. Please be aware that you may need Wi-Fi extenders, depending on the size of your home. Our technicians can help you determine if your home requires a Wi-Fi extender.

How long does the installation take?

Installations times can vary significantly but typically takes 1 hour.

When will I be billed?

Upon successful installation, you will be billed within 24-48 hours.

What is the installation process?

At Unwired Broadband, we make the installation process simple and hassle-free while ensuring everything is done safely and with care. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Underground Utility Marking (811 Process)

Before any digging happens, we contact 811 (Call Before You Dig) to have all underground utilities—like gas, water, and electric—clearly marked on your property. This is a required safety step that ensures we avoid damaging any existing lines. You might notice colored flags or paint in your yard—please do not remove them until after installation is complete.

2. Outside Work (Before Your Appointment)

Once all utilities have been marked, our crew will run a fiber optic cable from the street to the outside of your home. We use specialized trenching tools to carefully create a narrow, low-impact path—typically along the edge of your property. The cable is then securely attached to an exterior wall in a spot that’s both functional and visually discreet.

You do not need to be home during this part of the installation.

3. Inside Installation (During Your Appointment)

On the day of your scheduled appointment, a technician will:

  • Drill a small, clean hole in your exterior wall to bring the fiber inside.
  • Run the cable to a convenient location inside your home.
  • Install and connect your new internet service.

If you’re using your own router, please have your router’s login information and Wi-Fi password ready. If you choose to use a router we provide, we’ll set it up for you and make sure everything’s working before we leave. Our technicians take pride in their work and will always clean up any mess before wrapping up the job.
